In Order to Reflect 2023
Exploaring the Intersection between Aesthetics and Deconstruction

In Order to Reflect investigates the complex relationship between beauty and destruction, drawing from the observation of an oil slick on the sea’s surface. Its iridescent play of colors—seductive as a sunset—embodies a paradox, where the visually captivating and the ecologically devastating merge into an ambivalent experience that challenges the viewer’s perception and value system.

Through the use of materials such as vinyl and polyester fabric, whose plastic-based composition is revealed through heat treatment, the work materializes the tension between surface and substance. Repetition emerges as a central motif, echoing the ceaseless movement of the sea and its reflection of the sky’s shifting states.

At its core, the work captures the meditative act of watching a sunset—an act of reflection and contemplation, where the liminal space between day and night becomes a metaphor for the inexorable passage of time. Within this visual choreography, In Order to Reflect opens a space for introspection, inviting the viewer to consider the past, the present, and the potential futures that unfold before us.
